Description
The Cuba Libre is one of the most famous long drinks in the world but is often mistakenly dismissed as a simple "Rum and Coke." A true Cuba Libre, whose name means "Free Cuba" and dates back to the Spanish-American War, is distinguished by one crucial ingredient: the juice of a fresh lime. This splash of acidity transforms a simple mix into a real cocktail by cutting through the sweetness of the cola and highlighting the complex flavors of the rum. It is the epitome of an uncomplicated yet perfectly balanced drink.
Preparation
- Fill a highball glass to the brim with ice cubes.
- Squeeze the juice of half a lime directly into the glass. Drop the squeezed lime half into the glass as well.
- Add the rum.
- Slowly top up with well-chilled cola.
- Stir gently once and garnish with a fresh lime wedge.
