Description

The Hanky Panky is a classic cocktail created around 1925 by Ada "Coley" Coleman, the legendary head bartender at the American Bar of the Savoy Hotel in London. It is essentially a Sweet Martini that gains a distinctive bitter and herbal depth from the secret ingredient, Fernet-Branca. According to legend, after the first sip, actor Sir Charles Hawtrey exclaimed, "By Jove! That is the real hanky-panky!", and the name was born. It is a sophisticated, stirred drink for lovers of complex flavors.

Preparation

  1. Fill a coupe glass with ice to pre-chill it.
  2. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
  3. Stir for about 30 seconds until the glass is well-frosted on the outside.
  4. Discard the ice from the cocktail glass.
  5. Strain the contents of the mixing glass through a bar strainer into the chilled glass.
  6. Express an orange peel over the drink and add it as a garnish.
