Description
The Hemingway Special, also known as "Papa Doble," is a variation of the classic Daiquiri, allegedly created for the author Ernest Hemingway at the El Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba. Hemingway liked his daiquiris strong and without sugar ("double the rum and no sugar"). This version adds maraschino liqueur and fresh grapefruit juice to the tart drink, creating a new dimension of complexity and a bitter freshness. It is a potent, dry, and incredibly refreshing cocktail for lovers of classic rum sours.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a coupe glass with ice.
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake very vigorously until the shaker is frosted on the outside.
- Strain the contents through a fine sieve into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with a lime slice.
