Description

The Lumumba, also known in Northern Germany and Denmark as "Tote Tante" (Dead Aunt), is a classic hot drink for cold days. It is a wonderfully simple but incredibly comforting mix of hot chocolate and a shot of rum, traditionally topped with a dollop of whipped cream. The warmth of the cocoa, the sweet notes of the rum, and the creamy topping make it the perfect soul-warmer after a winter walk. A cold version served over ice is also very popular.

Preparation

  1. Preheat a heatproof mug or glass with hot water.
  2. Pour the rum into the preheated mug.
  3. Fill with freshly made hot chocolate.
  4. Stir gently.
  5. Top with a generous dollop of (sweetened) whipped cream.
  6. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings and serve immediately.
