Manhattan
Mix the perfect Manhattan with rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters. A powerful, spicy, and elegant cocktail.

Description
The Manhattan is a symbol of elegance and is considered one of the oldest and most famous cocktails in the world. Its origin is often attributed to a party hosted by Jennie Jerome, Winston Churchill's mother, at the Manhattan Club in New York around 1870. The bartender is said to have created the drink specifically for this occasion. Although this story is disputed, the Manhattan is inseparably linked to the style and flair of New York City. As one of the "cornerstones" of cocktails, along with the Old Fashioned, it consists of three simple but powerful ingredients: rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and a dash of bitters. The Manhattan is a strong, spicy drink that is stirred, not shaken, to preserve its texture.
Preparation
- Add all ingredients (rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters) to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds until the drink is well-chilled.
- Strain the contents through a sieve into a pre-chilled coupe or martini glass.
- Garnish with a cocktail cherry and serve.
