Whiskey Sour
Discover the Whiskey Sour recipe: Bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and optional egg white for a creamy texture. A timeless cocktail classic.

Description
The Whiskey Sour is a cocktail that was already popular in the United States in the 19th century. The first written mention of the "Sour" as a cocktail category can be found in the famous book "The Bartender's Guide" by Jerry Thomas in 1862. The simple yet brilliant formula (spirit, acid, sweetener) quickly became the standard. The optional addition of egg white, which provides the velvety-creamy texture and the characteristic foam crown, is a later addition that made the drink particularly popular. The Whiskey Sour is a perfect example of balance in a cocktail and a must-have for every whiskey lover.
Preparation
- Add all ingredients (whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, and optional egg white) to a shaker. First, perform a "dry shake" without ice to froth the egg white.
- Then, add ice and shake vigorously until the shaker feels cold on the outside.
- Strain the drink through a sieve into a tumbler glass filled with ice cubes.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cocktail cherry.
